Why is Branding Important?

Let’s think about that for a moment. Why is branding important? I mean, you know what your company does and how you can help others, but does the public? Does the person searching for the exact thing that you do, know you can help? If you answered no to any of these questions, then keep reading. We can help!

In this day and age, companies have to do more than just “sell” or “market” their products or services. There are just too many competitors. Companies have to identify themselves. That is step one. So, let’s pause and talk about that. How does a company identify themselves? Well, there are multiple ways.

  1. Form a survey to give your employees and ask several questions: Who are we? What do we want others to know about us? What defines us?
  2. Do you have a mission and values statement? You don’t. Okay, stop and do those two things first.

Once you have those questions answered and your employees are on board (THIS IS IMPORTANT), it makes it easier to stand behind your brand and have others believe you are who you say you are. You know the saying, “actions speak louder than words”? Well, it’s true.

Not only is it important for you to know your brand, but once you do, it allows you to connect to your customers and your employees on an emotional level. For us, If we don’t vibe with a company or practice we won’t use them. We just won’t. So if we know exactly who you are and what you stand for, then we know exactly what we are getting when we choose you. Hence, branding is important!

Now, we are not saying you have to get all deep and personal and if someone doesn’t connect with you, you say goodbye. No, this is still a business so there are some gray areas. BUT, and we say that with a loud, booming voice, it opens the door for conversations to happen.

Branding allows the company to have a clear sense of direction too. If we know what you stand for, then we know (or at least we should know) exactly where you want to go. And your employees will LOVE that. Believe us, if you can be upfront with your employees about who you are and where you want to go, you will allow your team to be a part of something more than just a job where they clock in and out. And hey, if they don’t like it, well might as well know now.

Employee retention is incredibly hard these days. People want a job where they feel like they can make a difference and have value. Now, yes your employees need to earn their paycheck and possible promotion, but you have to give them something to be a part of. I know for us, if we don’t feel like we are providing any value to our organization and it’s just a job, then it makes it SUPER hard to enjoy it. And whether you like it or not, that is what employees look for in their job. ENJOYMENT!! Hence, branding is important.

There are plenty of books and articles out there with even MORE information about branding, but to us it’s super simple. Branding is important because you want others to know exactly who you are. You want your employees on board so you can hold onto them, AND it makes it easier for you to stand out against your competitors. I mean how many companies take the time to understand who they are and why it’s important for others to know? Unfortunately, not many. To us, if a company takes the time to do that, they are already ahead of the game.
